Haven't found a BFG yet that we didn't like. We eat at all of them whenever we find one on our travels.

Good dining experience

All-in-all, a good dining experience at the Bonefish Grill in Baton Rouge. It was our first time dining there and we went after an LSU football game.

The hosts were polite and seemed to have it together. We chose to sit at the bar which was full service as there was a 35 minute wait.

We started with the Bang Bang Shrimp which were excellent -- just as everyone had told us. There is something in the sauce that makes you want to keep eating it, even though it is spicy. It's not like a buffalo spicy sauce...it's creamy and rich. We wished we had just gotten a couple orders of these! They also bring out bread with an olive oil dipping sauce.

We chose to share an entree as we had been tail-gaiting most of the day and were tired and not starving. We got the Swordfish over pumpkin ravioli topped with Feta Cheese. The fish was well-cooked and tender. The cheese was a surprising compliment to the fish. But the pumpkin ravioli was almost too sweet for the dish. It had a very earthy flavor, which was good, but maybe just didn't satisfy my taste buds. We also had a side of the whipped potatoes which had a wonderful consistency but was a slightly small portion.

The bartenders were busy but attentive and entertaining. They had conversation with us and the guests around us without being intrusive. Aaron, the bartender, took care of us and did a good job of running the service well also.

We enjoyed our experience and look forward to returning.

The Lighter Side of Seafood

Bonefish Grill is one of those dreaded chain restaurants but they actually do a provide a pretty good dining experience. The ambiance aims for somewhere between upscale and hip and the service is usually good like you'd expect at a slightly upscale restaurant.

The quality of the food depends on your taste. I don't think I've ever had a bad piece of fish there. It is usually cooked to perfection giving the fish a very good texture. I personally don't care for their sauces which are all fairly bland and understated. However, my parents love it specifically for that reason, so it may be just what you're looking for. They do have some flavor on the menu though, the Bang Bang Shrimp appetizer is always good. Fried shrimp with a spicy dressing drizzled on top.

It's not the top seafood restaurant in town, but they are good at what they do if you are looking for something different on your fish than the traditional cajun/creole sauces.

Also of note, the Longfin is a clever marketing name for Tilapia. If that matters to you they'll be happy to substitute another fish in the same dish.
