I'll admit their food isn't the best mexican food in town, but it's decent enough. It's cheap, has good service, and excellent margaritas. The large patio is a plus. I choose La Carreta over Superior for my Mid City mexican fix.

As a native Texan, I struggle to fine Mexican food that is decent in Baton Rouge. After following the recommendation of some friends, we tried La Carreta on Bluebonnet. The food was terrible, the service was lousy, and the price tag was outrageous. This "authentic" restaurant does not even make their own flour tortillas. Stick to Ninfa's or Superior if you are looking for Mexican food in Baton Rouge.
Great A La Carte Menu

For the price, it's a great restaurant. Their queso is the best in town and their chips and salsa is also phenomenal. I keep coming back for more.
The only complaint I've had in the past 6 years of going there- is that their service can get a little off beat when busy or when taking special orders.
But it hasn't stopped me from going back- That's how good the food is!
