Mr. John's Steakhouse Reviews (2)
Old style Chop House
by Purple Forever on 11/22/10
You could walk into Mr. Johns and feel like your in Chicago, Philly, New York, it just has that old style tile floor and dim light dining area. The service is outstanding as they are used to serving the demanding residents of The Avenue. The meat is superb with custom cuts available, cooked to perfection. Highly reocmmended for fans of cuts of meat usually reserved for the premium chop houses of the country. We love the fact that most tourists dont know about this hidden gem. Definitely a place for an important date or celebration. We love going there and will continue to patronize this special place called Mr. John's.
Best Steak ever

My husband and I went to eat at Mr. John's on Friday night. We started out with the onion ring appetizer. They were sliced super thin and were fried to a dark golden brown. I don't really eat onion rings that often, but I thought they were great! After that, I had the spinach salad, which consisted of: Baby spinach, grape tomatoes, crispy apple wood bacon, gorgonzola cheese tossed in a balsamic vinaigrette. It was fantastic! My husband had the Ceasar salad, which was pretty good. For the main course, my husband ordered the New York Strip. It is what Mr. John's is known for and I will tell you it came on a plate so hot that the tablecloth had a light burn ring on it! I chose the Tuscan Veal Chop and thought it was fantastic. My husband's first comment when he took the first bite of his steak, was "WOW. It melts." He didn't say much else except when he cleaned his plate, he said, "Best Steak Ever." For the side dish, we chose the Potatoes Au Gratin. It was a little rich for me, but my husband really liked it. The service at Mr. John's was wonderful. Never an empty glass of water or booze. Food arrived in reasonable amount of time. The place is small, so make reservations or you'll be waiting awhile. It's definitely an old school gangster style restaurant, with lifesize paintings of Mr. John on the wall in a gangster pose. The decor is dark and the vibe is kinda Boardwalk Empire era, but we liked it! We will definitely go back.
