Ambiance – Neighborhood jewel that screams New Orleans.
Food – Oysters, oysters and more oysters for me. The oysters on the half shell were to my liking, partly because I talked with and tipped the gentlemen shucking the oysters and told him what I liked.
The oyster stew, while heavy on butter, was very good.
The fried oyster sandwich was also very good. I’m not crazy about the thick bread that they serve but this was easily remedied by using a knife and fork, and by eating only half the bread in open-face style.
The batter on the oysters was excellent. Some restaurants overwhelm the oysters with the batter. I think Casamento’s has this just right.
I will eventually try their shrimp, but it will be difficult not to order their oysters next time.

Love Casamento's. Don't go there expecting some wow service or flashy restaurant. Do expect the best fried food you've ever had. It's an old neighborhood joint typical to New Orleans. The fried oysters are worthy of the wait, and there may be a wait. Payment is in cash. If you love raw, this is your place. Mike from Uglesich's is there shucking away. Soft shell crab is excellent. Not fine dining, but fine eating.
